Why Should You Care?

Raccoons are protected by law, and in most states may not be kept as pets. To hunt or trap raccoons you must aqcuire a lisence. However, the law states that any unlisenced property owner can elimintae raccoons that are causing damage.

Human mentality is to kill "pest species", because they are seen as a nussiance. In reality, we don't realize that most of the time we give raccoons the opportunity to be a pest. We are so disconnected from the natural world that we forget we are not the only animals that need to survive.

Raccoons represent thousands of years of history and are one of North America's most intellegent and opportunistic animals. They have just as much right to exist on this planet as we do, maybe even a little more.
